On the weekend of November 2 and 3rd, the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Club from Neahkahnie High School participated in its first Oregon Leadership Institute in Bend, Oregon. Students acquired leadership skills through a variety of workshops presented by successful business leaders from the state of Oregon. Students learned the importance of dressing for success, interview tips and techniques, and gained insight from top industry leaders on how to effectively seek employment and build a career path. On Sunday evening, students partook in an etiquette dinner and practiced proper behavior for a professional dinner meeting, all while enjoying a hearty meal and interacting with students from across the state. Monday morning FBLA members attended workshops and the closing session. During the last presentation, keynote speaker, Kent Butler, emphasized the importance of “doing what you can, with what you have, right where you are.” He focused on motivating and inspiring the students in his audience to reach for the top, set goals, and follow through to reach their dreams.
